Mantar machen zu zweit mehr Krach als die meisten 4-Mann-Bands. Die Jungs decken so ziemlich jedes härtere Genre ab. Es gibt Black Metal, Doom, Grunge, Punk. Hier gibt es richtig aufs Maul. Der Sound ist schmutzig und der Gesang fies. Lemmy hätte seine Freude an dieser Band. Definitiv eine der geilsten Kapellen.

The mass of sophisticated, finely-nuanced and meticulously put-together music out there is humongous and makes it easy to forget the charms of primitive, blunt bludgeonings. This is exactly where and why Mantar enters the stage: consisting of two people with a clear musical vision, this band always managed to sound heftier than most five piece groups - even in their earliest days. The Spell is their sonic quintessence; the epitome of being beaten to a bloody mush with a small blackjack. Hellish!

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity. Favorite Track(s): Die Feuertaufe, Grabenlieder

Gaerea's first release of "Unsettling Whispers" was in 2018, and since, they dared define a "black metal" niche of their own, they dared to walk a new path and stir shit up a bit in the realm of BM, this album is a masterpiece and a milestone proving that it can be done, provided the band can pull it off, and they did, oh they did! Gloomy, dark, post-BM sludgy whatever, it's Gaerea, and this one belongs in my BC collection, the end.
